Biography
Dr. Chen Wang is a renowned concert pianist and international award-winning artist who has given concerts at prestigious venues and appeared in major festivals including Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw (Netherlands), Jordan Hall, the National Center for the Performing Arts of China, the Asian Music Festival, the SCIPP Festival, and Musique 21 across the United States, Asia, and Europe. Dr. Wang serves as a United Nations Main Representative and Chair of the Arts & CEO of the Young Global Leadership Foundation, an organization holding UN ECOSOC Special Consultative Status (New York). She is also Vice Chairman and Guest Artist of the Australian International Culture Industries Association (Sydney), a signed recording artist with Ivory Classics (California), and a Piano Instructor at Columbia University. In addition, Dr. Wang is an Arts Education Program Manager at Columbia University’s Center on Chinese Education, and a member of the Expert Committee of the China Association for Promoting Children’s Culture and Art (Beijing).
Dr. Wang has received numerous honors, including First Prize at the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, First Prize (Senior Category) at the Golden Classical Music Awards International Piano Competition, Second Prize at the Orbetello International Piano Competition, and the Silver Medal at the Fifth Beethoven Music Festival Piano Invitational Competition in Germany, among others. Her performances and interviews have been featured by hundreds of media outlets worldwide, including Google News, Apple News, WABC, Boston Asian Radio & Television, China Central Television (CCTV), Hong Kong Television, Beijing Television, China Daily, ARTE France, and Australian ABC, among others. In 2019, she appeared as a featured real-life musician in the documentary Return to the Red Flag Canal, which received the Best History Documentary Award at the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival in Paris in 2021. A biographical book documenting Dr. Chen Wang’s life and artistic journey, BianZhiYaoLan (Woven Cradle), was published by China Radio, Film & Television Press.
In 2022, Dr. Wang launched the Journey to Love and Peace concert series at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall and continues to present it worldwide in support of this cause. She was honored with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition and a Certification of Recognition from the Mayor of Boston on behalf of the City of Boston for her dedication to the Asian community and beyond. Music critics have described her performances as “powerful and compelling,” noting that they “transport the audience on a visceral journey,” and have highlighted her as a “fascinating and unique pianist who captivated the audience for ninety minutes.” More than 70 international media outlets covered the event, with reports appearing in over 60 countries. In 2023, Dr. Wang’s Journey to Love & Peace concert was featured on a Times Square billboard. During the same period, she released a companion piano album, Love and Peace, available on major platforms including Spotify, Amazon, and Pandora.
Since 2023, Journey to Love and Peace has been presented internationally at leading academic and cultural institutions, including Columbia University, integrating Eastern and Western musical traditions through cross-disciplinary collaboration. In 2024, Dr. Wang curated and presented the world’s first Metaverse Journey to Love and Peace piano recital, merging virtual technology with live performance and receiving international recognition. The project was further presented in Rhode Island in 2024, featuring a synthesis of Western classical repertoire and Chinese traditional music, and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, it was met with critical acclaim.
In addition, Dr. Wang has initiated and participated in numerous social and nonprofit activities in both China and the United States. She was honored with the Global Youth Leadership Award at the United Nations Headquarters. At the Metaverse Women’s Summit, organized by the World Women Organization (WWO), she delivered a speech encouraging women worldwide to pursue their life’s purpose. She also served as a spokesperson and guest pianist at the Ninth World’s Children Call for Peace in Beijing, involving more than 100 institutions and children from 60 countries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Wang performed at the virtual Global Chinese Musicians’ Relay Concert, supporting the fight against the coronavirus; the event was broadcast globally. She received the China Outstanding Contributor of Public Welfare Award in Beijing for two consecutive years. As leader of the Jasmine Field Orchestra in Illinois, she directed performances for seniors, orphans, children with special needs, people with disabilities, university students, and local residents. She also performed at the North America Chinese New Year Gala hosted by Boston Asian Radio and TV (BARTV), supported by over 50 media outlets worldwide, and was awarded the Rising Star Honor at the Asian Music Festival. Most recently, she delivered an inspiring speech at the Peace Festival hosted by UNESCO in Beijing.
As a Steinway Teacher and Educational Partner, Dr. Wang’s innovative series of piano instructional videos for beginners and advanced students has reached nearly one million viewers. Her students have been admitted to prestigious universities and conservatories, including New York University, Columbia University, Harvard University, the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music (including visually impaired students), and Beijing Union University (including visually impaired students). She has also guided American students in cross-cultural exchange programs to China, fostering exploration, research, and vibrant cultural exchange.
Born in China, Dr. Wang began piano studies at age five and was admitted to China’s top music school, the Middle School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. She holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance and completed advanced studies at the New England Conservatory and Columbia University in the United States.
