Biography

Dr. Chen Wang is a renowned Chinese pianist who performs internationally. An award-winning artist, she has given concerts and performances in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw in the Netherlands, Jordan Hall, the National Center for the Performing Arts in China, Beijing Concert Hall, the Asian Music Festival, the SCIPP Festival, Musique 21, among others, across the United States, Asia, and Europe. Dr. Wang is the United Nations Main Representative and Vice President of Arts for the Young Global Leadership Foundation, which holds UN ECOSOC special consultative status (New York). She also serves as Vice Chairman and guest artist for the Australian International Culture Industries Association (Sydney), a signed artist with Ivory Classics (California), and a Piano Instructor at Columbia University. Additionally, Dr. Wang is an Educational Partner with Steinway & Sons, a Research Associate and Arts Education Program Manager at Columbia University's Center on Chinese Education, and a member of the expert committee of the China Association for Promoting Children’s Culture and Art (Beijing).

Wang has earned numerous awards, including First Prize at the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, First Prize in the Senior Category at the “Golden Classical Music Awards” International Piano Competition, Second Prize at the Orbetello International Piano Competition, and the Silver Medal at the Fifth Beethoven Music Festival Piano Invitational Competition in Germany, among others. Her performances and interviews have been featured on hundreds of media outlets, including Google News, Apple News, New York Celebrity Bulletin, WABC, Boston Asian Radio & TV, China Central TV, Hong Kong TV, Beijing TV, China Daily, Association relative à la télévision européenne (ARTE France), and Australian ABC media. In 2019, she was featured as a real-life musician in the documentary Return to the Red Flag Canal, which won the Best History Documentary Award at the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival in Paris in 2021. The book narrating Dr. Chen Wang’s life story, BianZhiYaoLan (Woven Cradle), was published by China Radio Broadcast and Television Press.

 

In 2022, Dr. Wang launched the “Journey to Love and Peace” concert series at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, and continues to present it worldwide in support of this cause. She was honored with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition and a Certification of Recognition from the Mayor of Boston on behalf of the City of Boston for her dedication to the Asian community and beyond. Music critics have described her performance as “powerful and compelling,” noting that it “transports the audience on a visceral journey” and highlighting her as a “fascinating and unique pianist who captivated the audience for ninety minutes.” More than 70 international media outlets covered the event, with widespread reportage in more than 60 countries. In 2023, Dr. Wang's concert "Journey to Love & Peace" was featured on a Times Square billboard. She also released a piano album titled Journey to Love and Peace, which is available on major platforms such as Spotify, Amazon, and Pandora.

 

In addition, Dr. Wang has initiated and participated in numerous social and nonprofit activities in both China and the United States. She was honored with the Global Youth Leadership Award at the United Nations Headquarters. At the  Metaverse Women’s Summit, guided by the World Women Organization (WWO), Dr. Wang delivered a speech encouraging women worldwide to pursue their life's purpose. She also served as a spokesperson and guest pianist at the Ninth World’s Children Call for Peace event in Beijing, alongside more than 100 institutions and children from 60 countries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, sDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, she was the opening performer at the virtual charity event,  the Global Chinese Musicians’ Relay Concert, which supported the fight against the coronavirus and was broadcast globally. Dr. Wang received the China Outstanding Contributor of Public Welfare Award for two consecutive years in Beijing. As the leader of the Jasmine Field Orchestra in Illinois, she directed the group in performances for seniors, orphans, children with special needs, people with disabilities, university students, and local residents. She also performed at the North America Chinese New Year Gala hosted by Boston Asian Radio and TV (BARTV), which was supported by over 50 media outlets globally. Additionally, Dr. Wang was awarded the Rising Star Honor at the Asian Music Festival. Most recently, she delivered an inspiring speech at the Peace Festival hosted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Beijing.


As a Steinway Teacher and Educational Partner, Dr. Wang’s innovative series of piano instructional videos for beginners and advanced levels reached nearly one million viewers. Her students have been admitted to prestigious universities and conservatories, including New York University, Columbia University, Harvard University, the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music(blind student), and Beijing Union University (blind student). She assisted American students in cross-cultural exchange groups to embark on transformative journeys to China, igniting exploration, research, and a vibrant cultural exchange.

Born in China, Wang began her piano studies at the age of 5. At 11, she was admitted to China’s top music school, the Middle School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Wang holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance, and has studied at renowned institutions in the United States, including the New England Conservatory, Columbia University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Michigan State University.
